Software license
A license covers one person on up to two devices. Finger checks the signed license offline and records activation locally. Read the activation limits and reset process below. This page is the license for every paid Syntax Forge tool, and the Terms of service point here for it.
What a license grants
- One person. The licensee named on the order. A team needs one license for each person who uses the tool.
- Two devices at a time. To move to a new machine, request a reset through Support with your order ID; it is not a repurchase. Support mail is not connected yet.
- Personal or commercial use, including paid work at your job.
- No expiry. The version you bought keeps working without a subscription, and you may keep backup copies.
What you may not do
- Redistribute the download, installer or archive, in public or inside a company.
- Resell, rent, lend or sublicense the tool or the license.
- Share or publish your key or key file.
- Remove license notices, the key check or any order watermark.
- Use the tool or its code to build a competing product.
Breaking these ends the license for that order, with no refund. A right the law gives you regardless, such as decompiling for interoperability in the EU, still stands.
How a license works, and what it does not enforce
A license file is signed and checked offline, so the software can tell a genuine license from a fake one. Each machine records its own activation. Nothing counts devices across machines and nothing can be revoked offline, so the two-device limit and revocation are license terms, not technical controls. Enforcing them would need per-device signed licenses or an online activation service; neither ships today. This is not DRM, and this website never sees your devices.
Refunds, updates, transfer, warranty
- Refunds. If a paid tool fails to run on a system its page lists as supported and the problem cannot be resolved within 14 days of purchase, you get a full refund through the seller named at checkout. A refund ends the license. EU/UK withdrawal: see the Terms.
- Updates. A license covers one major version, for example every 1.x release, with its minor and patch updates. A new major version is a new purchase; the one you have keeps working.
- Transfer. The license is personal and you may not transfer it yourself. Where the law allows resale, as in the EU (UsedSoft v Oracle, C-128/11), ask through Support with your order ID and the license is reissued in the new owner’s name. General information, not legal advice.
- Warranty. The disclaimer and limitation of liability in the Terms of service apply.
Free and open-source tools ship under the license in their own repository. See also Finger and release verification.
